Tell us about your role at SMHI!
Much of what I do involves handling measurement data, primarily oceanographic data collected from ships at sea. A significant part of my work is focused on ensuring that this data maintains the highest possible quality and remains accessible and useful both now and in the future.
Part of my job also includes working on offshore expeditions, where I either participate in or lead these missions to gather data from our surrounding seas. I also have some international responsibilities, such as collaborating with oceanographic data centres across Europe.
With the experience I’ve accumulated, I often have the opportunity to support and guide colleagues on questions that require my expertise.
Why did you start working at SMHI?
One reason I applied to SMHI was that the organisation works on a wide range of marine issues where I felt my background in oceanography could be of value. Additionally, I was excited about the opportunity to learn more about the sea and its environment.
SMHI is an attractive workplace for newly graduated oceanographers, and I was fortunate to secure a project position before completing my thesis. This eventually led to a permanent position.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I would say the variety of tasks and having great colleagues are the best aspects of my job. I also appreciate the considerable amount of responsibility I am given. I frequently encounter problems that need solving, and problem-solving is something I enjoy.
Working to convey knowledge about the marine environment and striving to improve it is very satisfying—it feels like I am actually making a positive impact.
