About Magnus

- Started at SMHI: In 2000
- Education: Master of Science in Meteorology (Mathematics and Natural Sciences program with a focus on meteorology)
How did you become a meteorologist?
I enjoy working with weather; it's something everyone has a connection to.
When I was choosing my studies after high school, I realised I was interested in mathematics and physics. At the same time, many physics subjects felt quite theoretical and abstract, while meteorology deals with something we all see and experience in our daily lives.

Today, I work as a consultant on various types of projects related to climate and meteorology. This could involve anything from conducting studies on how extreme weather might affect a nuclear power plant to analysing what the wind environment will be like in a neighbourhood that is about to be built. These decision-making supports are crucial for construction and real estate companies as well as municipalities.
Previously, I’ve worked as both a weather forecaster and an aviation meteorologist.
What distinguishes SMHI as a workplace?
It's clear that most people who work at SMHI are passionate about nature and the natural sciences. Many people here have extensive knowledge in SMHI's core areas. The people are also helpful, and I have many great colleagues.
