Published

The Authorities Network for Climate Adaptation comprises approximately 30 authorities, including county administrative boards and the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SKR), collaborating on climate adaptation issues.

The network's secretariat is hosted by the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) and aims to enhance the capacity and effectiveness of Sweden's climate adaptation efforts.

Here are some of the network's key responsibilities:

  • Coordination of climate adaptation: The network ensures that different governmental agencies collaborate effectively on climate adaptation efforts and that these efforts are coordinated across sectoral boundaries.
  • Knowledge exchange: One of the network’s roles is to promote the exchange of knowledge and experiences among agencies. This is achieved through joint projects, seminars, and dialogues.
  • Identifying needs: The network helps identify the need for additional measures and initiatives in climate adaptation work at both national and local levels.
  • Enhancing resilience: By fostering cooperation between agencies, the network contributes to strengthening society’s resilience to climate-related risks, such as extreme weather events, rising water levels, and ecosystem changes.
  • Advisory and guidance support: The network provides advice and support to municipalities, regions, and other stakeholders in their climate adaptation efforts, ensuring they have the necessary tools and resources.
  • Monitoring and evaluating efforts: A key part of the network’s mission is to track climate adaptation initiatives and assess their effectiveness, ensuring that measures are appropriate and achieve the expected results.
